Saturday, September 16, 2017 is the 3rd Annual Wood River HarvestFest
Wood River Sustainability Center & Downtown Hailey
The fall harvest months are a time to reflect upon the many benefits our local farming community provides for our residents and visitors. In many parts of the country, there’s a lack of connection between those who produce our food and those who consume it. Farming and food production has a deep and direct effect upon each of us. “Wood River Valley HarvestFest is a unique opportunity for visitors and local residents to experience a locally sourced, food-centric event that highlights the quality and availability of local products,” says Ian Jameson, Board Member for Idaho’s Bounty Co-op.
The event begins with a Local Food Fair of local farmers, chefs, merchants and local food educators at Wood River Sustainability Center in Hailey, and features appetizers prepared by local chefs and wines from some of Idaho’s top vineyards. The Food Fair at the Wood River Valley HarvestFest offers an opportunity to foster the connection between producers and consumers.
During the Restaurant Walk, guests circulate among 16 Hailey restaurants on and just off of Main Street, sampling a variety of tapas-style plates and a range of food preparation styles before returning to Wood River Sustainability Center for an array of desserts, wines and beers, all locally sourced and prepared. The event is completed by dessert and a Street Party.
“Our hope is to increase the breadth of the Wood River Valley HarvestFest each year with options to meet farmers, producers and guest chefs; learn how to prepare seasonal food; and taste local wines and beers,” notes Ali Long, Executive Director, Local Food Alliance. “The annual Wood River Valley HarvestFest promises to grow in popularity as well as its ability to connect our residents and visitors to the benefits of locally produced, processed, and prepared foods,” she adds. “This will improve the health of our community members, our economy and our environment.”
